Arc furnace steelmaking is a very large amount of steel water (15-20%) byproducts, traditional arc slag grinding, polishing treatment methods included aging and steps, such as high cost, time is long, will also cause environmental pollution, the final product usage and slag is very limited.

Tehran, Iran national engineering and technical management institute and South Korea company developed slag atomization technology (SAT) to avoid these problems. This method USES a new device in the air and water will come from electric arc furnace slag (1500 ~ 155 melt flow into degrees Celsius) in diameter between 0.1 ~ 45 mm small ball, it is stable spinel structure, called pure slag ball. Through this method can deal with general atomization 75 to 80 percent of the molten slag, heavy material and the remainder of the metal deposition in re-blows slag pot bottom. SAT products with high value, environmental friendly and can be used in various purposes, for example, water treatment, construction materials, grinding, desulfurizer, etc.

In 1997, the first put into use in Korea SAT equipment. 2009, is expected to South Korea, South Africa, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Iran and the United States will install the planning and equipment. Then, the total equipment capacity will reach 340 million tons.
